The God of the Renewed & Transformed!

My Old faithfuls

These last few weeks have been extremely busy for my wife and I. We have also had some technological problems with our Bible study laptop.

It is about time for us to say goodbye to it, but just like my 1999 Mercury Mountaineer, the hardware works well. It’s the software on both of my loyal machines that have run amuck!

As I said on one of my past blogs, my 17 inch MacBook Pro, was top of the line in 2012. I added RAM and changed the hard drive to a terabyte a few years ago. But Apple decided that my laptop was no longer important enough to be supported.

Old man MatthiasMy eyes are dim, I cannot see… my legs are grey…

My Mountaineer is as loyal as it is powerful. Has an 8 cylinder engine that starts up like 15 years ago. The drive is comfortable, and this SUV was also top of the line. The leather seats, are still comfortable enough to take a long trip. But the electronics on it are beginning to misfire. Some of the locks are like the old man in Monty Python’s Life of Brian. If you haven’t seen the movie, there is a character who looks so old, that he squeaks when he walks, or so my mind has me think it does, every time I have watched it.

Back to my story…

I know it’s time to get rid of both of my hardworking machines, because I have to, not that I want to. I can’t beef up my laptop. Even if I add extra RAM, a brand new Hard drive, new screen, and keyboard, it would be the world’s most powerful paper weight. Same with my 1999 Mountaineer. I can rebuild the engine, and transmission. Get new tires and fix the suspension. But the locks and wiring will still be faulty.

So it’s adieu to both pretty soon.  Which brings me to the application…

No matter what we do in life, if it’s not glorifying God’s will, then we will be like my laptop and SUV. We may get ‘spiffed up’, even ‘glammed up’. But our inner being will still be the same. This is how people who go without God are ( John 15:4-5 ). They may be going throughout life without God, but sooner or later, we will have to meet Him, in person ( Matthew 13:49; Matthew 25:32; 2 Corinthians 5:10 ).

Then and only then, will we see ourselves like my wife sees the useless and unsupported laptop that has caused me both time and aggravation before our Bible studies and during the week while trying my best to make this laptop that has seen better days work on Zoom and on Keynote (PowerPoint, Libre Office for those who don’t have Apple products).

By looking at ourselves the way God sees us before making a personal commitment to Him, we see ourr brokenness & the personal relationship with God will begin.

And just like my Mountaineer, when my wife tries to bring down the window on the passenger side or open the door on the driver’s passenger side, the aggravation of trying to figure out if they will be working or not, and then doing everything in your power to make it happen, is no longer viable for us.

One Day

All this to say:

One day, all of us will not be working too well. Our bodies will be giving up sooner or later. To those that are young and just starting out, you may laugh at the stories that your parents or grandparents tell you about getting old. But one day you will be there. So start thinking about getting closer to God. Get to know Him well enough that when your time to go into eternity comes, you will be looking forward to becoming a brand new, wholly supported, forever a brand new, top of the line model in heaven. Where rust or corrosion will not harm anything.

For those of you who are getting older, I invite you to hurry and get right with God. So that your second part or phase in life, won’t have you worried about tomorrow. Tomorrow may come faster than you think, because no person is guaranteed tomorrow ( Proverbs 27:1; James 4:14 ).

Everything will become new

For those that are struggling with aging, I give you hope. The day that you enter into eternity will be the first day with a new body. This new body will never get old, and will never need maintenance. Your new body will always be supported by Jesus in heaven. You see, Jesus will wipe every tear and get rid of every painful thing we carry here on earth. There will not be a need for doctors or dentists. God will be our all, and we will be His everything ( 1 Corinthians 5:1-10; 1 Corinthians 15:22; 1 Corinthians 15:28; Revelation 21:1-4 ).

As for me, I know where I’ll be when my wiring or hardware no longer can take keeping me here in this physical life. I know that unlike my two loyal machines, I will not be sold or discarded by Christ, because He has already redeemed me with His blood on the cross (Romans 8:14; Romans 8:15; Romans 10:4; Galatians 4:5; Galatians 3:13)!

I invite you to get to know Jesus personally. And if you already know Him personally, I invite you to really get to know who He is….Go bless someone today. Give this world hope that is missing!
