Imagine you’re at a wedding and everyone is waiting on the bride to show up. The song of the bride goes forth. All eyes are on her. The groom anxiously looking towards the front of the church doors that smack center aisle. The doors open, the dad is holding on to his daughter. Then all of a sudden everyone sees how horrified the groom looks because the bride shows up at her wedding with the dirtiest of dresses that she bought at a yard sale! It wasn’t the expensive beautiful dress that she had picked out. Everyone notices that she is barefoot and her feet are muddy. The tears in her dress make people blush for her. As the bride is walking in she is apologizing profusely, as she is going from row to row of church pews all the way to the front. She looks at the groom and tells him that she was running late and could not get ready. She then goes on to tell him that she just decided to clean up the place that they were going to be living in, Instead of getting ready for the wedding. Of course this is just a story. No bride in the right mind would ever do that. A groom possibly, but not the bride. But a groom is just that, a groom. All the attention is always on the bride.
Now, the story holds true in our spiritual walk. And I want you to really think about this a couple of days after Thanksgiving Day here in the United States. Because often times Christians go before the throne of God like the dirty bride, instead of the dazzling and pure white dressed up bride everyone expects at a wedding. Part of that reason is because modern Christians have forgotten the fear of the Lord. And that fear brings humility.
16 For You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; You take no pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.… Psalm 51
A gift worth having:
Humility…Humility is the most important of our gifts to the Lord. Without humility we cannot go before the throne of God.
Humility was of extreme importance when the high priest would go into the Holy of Holies. Without this humility the high priest would never reach the Ark of the Covenant.
God tells us to humble hearts before Him.
You See, God doesn’t want pompous scarifices…Os Roca
You see, God doesn’t want pompous sacrifices, like going to church every Wednesday and Sunday. You could serve in ministry. You could be at the Church’s building everyday without fail. You could volunteer without ever missing a beat, and still not be in conjunction with the Almighty.
Without a humble heart or spirit of thankfulness, all your external actions are just that, external actions.
What matters to God is for His children to come before Him with the right attitude. He doesn’t force you to do anything or force you to come before Him.
It is quite the opposite. God knows everyone by name and by what’s on the inside. He knows our every strengths and weaknesses.
When God created men & women, He created them to be in perfect conjunction with Him.
I use this word because we have lost the meaning of the word unction. Which then reminded me of the kids’ educational short videos on TV during the 70s and 80s.
Clearing throat: Conjunction junction… what’s your function?…Yeah, that one…
The Holiness of unction
This word unction means to be anointed or oiled. It is an old word that no one uses anymore. Very few pastors make it a point to explain this incredibly important word.
Here’s the awesome part of it—without this symbolic anointing that we are receiving, we cannot come before our Lord and Savior to lay out our sins, our worries, and our burdens. Because we would be so unclean and unworthy to present ourselves to the Creator of the universe before His throne—and before the Cross of Christ!
Go before the LORD & His Anointed with a clean heart. By humbling yourself & finally knowing what your (F)unction is in LifeOs Roca
